Hi I'm a little new at this so please bear with me  I have a few questions I'd wonder if you good people can answer.

I am an UK citizen living in China with my Chinese wife (just got married a 5 months ago YAY :D ).

We want to goto England for a holiday this summer and I'm unsure about which visa is appropriate. We don't intend to settle in UK at least for a year or more, after which time she will study. Once done studying we'll probably leave UK again.

So for our holiday should we get the Entry clearance visitor visa or go for the spouse visa? While the tourist visa seems the obvious choice, it appears to be less certain of getting one (interviews, proof such as letters/photo's etc) while the spouse visa seems more straight forward (unless I'm just deluding myself). However the spouse visa carries a much bigger fee which we don't want to pay unless it's the right choice.

My next question might not fall into the knowledge of people here, but I'll give it a shot.

Once we move to UK so my wife can study (I'm sure, on the spouse visa), will she as my wife still be regarded as an international student?
Will having spouse visa / permanent residence have any bearing on tution fees?
(As you can probably guess, we are very money conscious - not hurting for cash and have no intention of overspending hehe)
Since our intention is not to settle in the UK permanently, how will this affect the kinds of visa's/permissions to stay in UK?
Ideally I would like for her to attain a UK passport eventually. Can this be done while we both live outside UK?

    Many thanks
    Taz

I'm a UK citizen in China, married to a Chinese citizen. I got her a tourist visa (edit: it was actually a visit visa) last year for the UK with very few problems. It took a couple of days. There was no interview, and she didn't actually go to the visa office herself, as I did everything except fill in the form. She has a good job and property here, however. I don't know if that made a difference.

By the way, I wouldn't mention that you intend to settle in the UK next year if you apply for a tourist visa.

Thank you both for a reply.

It looks like a tourist visa will be more relavent then. This is what we thought but it's good to here from others who have gone this route.

The information from Kaitan (sp?) is invaluable and I will certainly follow his directions sometime in the future :D

We're going to submit the application soon, just getting documents readied atm, I'll return when I can to post an update!
