I am an American citizen engaged to marry a UK citizen in November. We are going to have the wedding in Hawaii, USA, but want to move to England to live permanently.
Obviously, I would need to get a Marriage visa because I will be married to him when i arrive in England. The problem is, how do I do this when they require a Marriage license AND TIME TO PROCESS it all. . .
Can I just enter England with an Entry Clearance and the marriage visa will be in process during that time?
I'm just not sure what to do. . .
Any suggestions? I know all the basics of what is required. . .trust me, i've read ALL the websites. . .but we're working with a time frame here that I just don't know how it will all work out.
    Thanks!

This link gives you all the info you need to have for obtaining a marriage license in Hawaii.

    http://www.hawaii.gov/health/vital-records/vital-records/marriage/index.html

Once you are married, you'll be able to go on a honeymoon or such, but when you're ready to apply for the Spouse visa, you'll have to be in the USA. You will not be able to enter the UK for the purpose of staying with your husband as a spouse without the entry clearance you receive with the Spouse visa. After your wedding, you will need to fill out the application form, they prefer you do this online, regardless of whether or not you plan to visit one of the three Consulates (New York, Los Angeles, Chicago). I would suggest making an appointment at a consulate if you can. Your visa could be processed and issued within 24 hours! Otherwise, they reccommend you send in your information and documentation at least 14 days before your scheduled date of travel. This link will give you insight into what sort of evidence and documentation you will need to provide.

I'm going through this exact situation. My husband and I were married in Illinois on March 23rd, and I have been gathering evidence and all sorts for about 4-5 months now. You have plenty of time to gather all the information you'll need! My appointment date for the interview is on June 9th, in Chicago! Its an exciting time, even if it means being away from your spouse for a couple weeks, its worth the wait to be with them forever :) Of course, your spouse is more than welcome to join you in the states as a visitor while you go through the process! :D

If you have more specific questions, I'd love to try and help answer them!

    Thank you for your info!

Thank you for your reply so quickly "seraphina". . .i really really appreciate it! it did help to understand a bit more about the actual process of things. . .
I looked on the link you sent for hawaiian marriage licenses and certificates and i could actually receive one right away after the marriage, which means we could schedule an appointment at the Consulate in LA a week or so later.
So you were saying that the application could be processed and the visa could be given within 24 hours if we apply how? on the internet? And so if we apply online, does that require an interview in person?
And also, you said that you have been gathering info since March??? I looked up the info we need, but it didn't seem like that much (3 months worth). . .am i missing something? that would not be good to underestimate what exactly i have to do!
I wish you the best on the 9th of June! that's a long awaited date and well-deserved after all your hard work! Are you moving to England also? Thank you again!

Re: Thank you for your info!

Well, I mainly gave the link for the marriage License purpose. You are normally asked if you'd like copies of your marriage certificate when you receive it. lol.

When you make an appointment through the consulate, you are required to submit your application through the internet. These websites will be of much use for you :)

The application will be made through this website:
    http://www.visa4uk.fco.gov.uk/ApplyNow.aspx

And mind, you'll have to pay the fee at the end of the application. Its currently set at $494 and can be paid with a credit card.

The Appointment for the interview should be made here:
    http://www.britainusa.com/visas/articles_show.asp?i=65014&L1=41000

And as for the length of time I've been gathering info, its moreso for the purpose of calming me down. I'm somewhat of a perfectionist when it comes to important things like this. I just want to be sure that I have every single piece of evidence I can get my hands on. It shouldnt really take you that long, although it might take awhile to get some of the notarised documents. A Solicitor can validate a copy of a passport and so on. It really would have only take me about a month to gather everything, but I had some spare time that I had to wait out. Also, I have an issue with eligibility for the visa bit. You have to be 18 to submit an application on your own, and I'm 18 in, gosh...4 days. :) I'm actually moving to North Wales. And, by the way. If you want to read this, I found it highly informative. Its an article, basically telling the person who'll be interviewing you, how to handle theirselves during the process!!! ^_^

    http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/servlet/F...lerate/ShowPage&c=Page&cid=1035796295766#five

It is very very long..and somewhat drab, but it has great insight into what sorts of questions you'll be asked during your interview and all of the requirements and things :)

    Good luck! ^_^
