    Hi all,

I've lurked around this board quite often over the past 18 months or so, finding out about others experience and collecting advice and tips about how to get all of my applications and such in order.

A US citizen, I married my German wife in NYC. I then applied for and received an EEA family permit at the embassy there before heading back home to London. On 23 April we sent off our EEA1 and EEA2 forms to the Home Office, expecting a long wait. So today I was shocked when my wife brought out post in with a large packet from Croydon.

She received her residency permit and I got my residency stamp. However neither one of us was given the 5 year limit that I had read about. We both were granted indefinite status (of course mine dependent upon her being here and our relationship remaining intact). I am thrilled and stunned.

So I wanted to thank everyone here who has shared info and experiences and if I can return the favour, then all the better. I cannot believe how straight forward it all was.

    Thanks again!!

I suppose it is thanks to your nationalities. They are not so fast as far as African and new EU countries are concerned... and even indefinite... Congrat. And they refused to process my application on the same day because I take child benefit. they have to check it.... because some nationalities are entitled and some are not... even if I'm from EU and working.. that's the way HO works..

Great, indefinite??? It's a 10 year valid one?

I am sure they made confusion as they should have give 5 years first. But hooray! Celebrate!! You are lucky!
And other thing: a permanent one is not dependent on the partner's status anymore. Just to let you know. A permanent visa is valid even if you split up or anything, because it's permanent!
