I hope this is in the right section, and apologize if it isn't. :)

I'll try to keep it concise. I am a US citizen with a UK girlfriend. We do intend on getting married someday, but we are wanting to wait instead of hastily entering into a marriage, even though it is frustrating to spend so much time apart. My question is, and I know the advice I get isn't the official word, but I appreciate it. If I want to continue to visit the UK from the United States until we decided to apply for a fiance visa. What would be the best visa to apply for? Preferably one that allows me to go back and forth over a course of a few years. If I can get a visa that allows me to do that, does that mean I can stay up to six months, leave for a month and then come back for another six months? I am completley lost on this with out a lot of time to get my facts straight. What would be the best route to take? Thanks for the advice, whatever it may be.

P.S. - Just a few more random questions

    1. If I travel to the UK on a visa granted by the embassy in the US. Does that mean I will automatically be granted entry clearence?

    2. How long does a visitor visa take to processusually?

    3. After leaving the UK, what is a good time frame to attempt to enter for another long period of time, and will they let me stay for as long as the visa says I can stay?

    4. If she were to apply for a fiance visa to come over to the US and marry me, would there be any chance of having a spouse visa refused or denied entry clearence for me to journey back to the UK to reside with her?

    Once again, thanks!

    Hi there.

I do not know what the visa for the long period of time would be like.As far as I remember these ones are not that easy to get.
You dont need visa to travel to the UK.Any subsequent entries would be looked at in the different light by the immigration officer, especially if you stayed full term.We had people here saying that they were refused entry.

Thanks, another real quick question is. If I get a approved for a six month leave to enter. Can I stay six months even if I hadn't inteded to stay that long before being granted leave to enter. Let's say if I intended on staying 2 months and then decided to stay a while longer but no longer than the six month permittance. Would there be a problem with that? Thanks!

If you were to get visa from USA and that sort of question pops up I would not advise you to stay longer then you originally said.

Basically you are allowed to come to UK and stay 6 months .Any entry after that one (if you stayed full term) will be looked at with some degree of suspicion.

Ok, thanks. I was just curious. Last question of the night. If we decided to get married soon. If she just files for a fiance visa, and we marry in the US. Could we then apply for a spouse visa after the marriage and return to the UK together? Or would she have to return after the marriage and then apply for a spouse visa? *confused. If you could clarify that I'd be really greatful!
