Hi! I am waiting to receive a certificate of approval application form off Home Office. Ive just read the documents i will need to support the application, but because i was born after 1983 in uk i will need my mother and fathers marriage certificate, to prove my birth nationality. The problem is my parents divorcedwhen i was young and i have not got contact with my real dad, so i cant get there marriage certificate. Would my Mothers Birth Certificate do?

    I would guess so.

Most bizarre things they ask for these days  .You could have been born to parents that never got married!
I would like to hear from someone who actually applied for this certificate.

This is the rule I just come across

If your fiancee or proposed civil partner was born in the United Kingdom after 1 January 1983 they may not automatically be British by birth. To establish their nationality for the purposes of obtaining a Certificate of Approval for Marriage they will need to provide evidence of their parents nationality or immigration status at the time of their birth and, if seeking to rely on their father’s immigration or nationality status, their parents marriage certificate

A child who was born in the United Kingdom on or after 1 January 1983 will be a British citizen if either the father or the mother is a British citizen. A child who was born in the United Kingdom on or after 1 January 1983 will also be a British citizen if either the father or mother, although not a British citizen, is legally settled in the United Kingdom. In any other circumstances, a child who was born in the United Kingdom on or after 1 January 1983 will not be a British citizen.
