    hey there, another quick question.
i am american, boyfriend is english. we want to move to UK in july for a year or more, already been offered temp employment at a language school...currently living in prague although i am still wating for my work permit here so i cant apply at the embassy here.
says on all the websites that you must apply in the country where you currently legally live.

if i send all the paperowrk to my parents and have them send it to chicago (the embassy that would handle me) would that work? then my parents could just send the info back to me. would this be a problem?

thanks for any advice anyone has.

The Entry Clearance Officer will need to see evidence of a two-year relationship. This may include:

documents showing joint commitments, such as bank accounts, investments, rent agreements or mortgages
letters linking you to the same address, and
official records of your address, such as your National Insurance card or health card.

This visa is hard to get,you must go through an interview.

that is what i dont quite get...it says that an interview may be required but that you can do it through the post or through courier. I have decided to just go home to minneapolis and drive to chicago for a day or two to take care of it but my partner wont be with me, he will have gone to the UK to get a flat, etc. he will stay with friends for a while, i assume and i will join him after a few weeks.
why do you think this visa is so hard to get? it seems to be the same paperwork you need for a spousal visa. plus we already have job offers in the UK, and they are willing to write us a letter with a contract showing our rate of pay, etc.
i am curious though, what about it makes you say it is difficult to get?
    thanks!

    This is wise decision.

If you can prove all the things is fine, but many people can not, threfore refusals.

When you say job offer for you :headscratch: ,I am little confused you need work permit, but you already got job offer?!

i am an esl teacher and i have been offered temporary summer employment at a few language schools there.
since the employment is temporary, they cant get me a work permit. they will, however, supply contract offers and the like to show the entry clearence officer.

you have got me a bit worried now but what do you think of this:

    Evidence of Cohab:
we lived in London (I was on the BUNAC working holiday visa) for 6 months where we lived with his parents. I am thinking I could get the English bank I used to send me old bank statments with that address on it, same for him. If thats not possible, i thought i would ask his parents to write a letter on our behalf confirming that we did live there.
Then we lived in Japan for 16 months. I have requested that the company we worked for (and rented our apartment from ) send me a copy of that lease. We also have most of our pay stubs from that time.
We have lived in Prague since Sept and as he is EU and I am not, the lease is in his name. However, we have a joint bank account here so I can show a statement from that.

    Evidence of Accom:
We will probably stay with friends when we first get there and I have asked them for a letter saying thats OK plus a copy of their lease.

    Evidence of Financial Support:
We wont have much money to show for when we first arrive but we both have employment waiting for us, plus we both have degrees and a few years of professional experience (we are both 24) so we can show our cvs to show that we would be able to find work rather easily. Plus, I thought I could also ask our parents to give us a copy of their recent bank statments plus a statement from them saying they would help us financially if it came to that.

I will leave prague the same time he will leave so once he gets to England he can post me his passport. I think I need his birth certificate too, but not sure about that. And obviously he would write me the letter of support.

    We have no dependents.

    Am I missing anything?!
    :)

I would advise you to sort out proper accommodation. If its big house and you will have use of bedroom or 2 its fine.Make sure you have all the docs ready when applying.

You will be fine thought. No need to worry ;)

we are hoping that the school we decided to go with will be able to offer us residence there but we arent sure about that yet. but they shouldnt care about how much space we have, should they? we are hoping we wont have to stay with friends at all but it just seems easier to get their lease and so one.

just to be sure, you mentioned an interview (which is not clearly stated on the chicago website, i believe somewhere it says it is possible but not mandaotry) but my partner does not have to be with me, right? (that seems strange, but it seems to be the case that as long as i have a letter from him and his passport its all good!)

hmmmm that is a bit worrying then as this would not be a case where we would have our own room, just using their address....but how would the entry clearance guy know how many people lived there if the lease is only in one persons name? basically my friend lives in a four bedroom house, the leease is in her name and a few other friends live there.
whats the other forum you look at? just wondering as i dont see so much info about this visa on these forums, looking for other people who have done this recently. also wondering how far in advance i should do the online app and pay and how far in advance i need to book the apt.
you have been very helpful, have you gone through this also?
    cheers
