    I'm an American who has Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK as a result of marrying a British citizen 4 years ago. Am currently living in London and want to get a divorce. Does this impact my legal status here? I realise this is a serious matter and plan to find a lawyer if I can afford one, but just wondered if anyone has anecdotal evidence on this subject?

    IT DOES NOT AFFECT YOUR LEGAL STATUS , you are free to do what you like ;), better bet to book yourself a holiday then the lawyer :mrgreen:

    Hi,
    Don't worry for the visa thing. As you have indefinite leave to remain, you can stay in the country as long as you want.
    You stay is not "connected" to your marriage status anymore from the moment that you got indefinite leave to remain. So it doesn't matter if you divorce or not. Your right to stay here is not affected anymore.
