    Hi,
My boyfriend is a US citizen in New York, and I'm a UK citizen in Brighton. We want to marry as soon as possible, but the whole fiance visa thing is so long, drawn out and difficult. We considered Las Vegas as an easy option, as once we ARE married, it will be easier to get him over here to the UK to be with me. He's coming here for a few weeks over Christmas so ideally we'd like to marry then, to get the ball rolling. Vegas is a long long way from the UK, so we've been looking at countries close by.
We're not keen on Vegas and wondered if there are any other countries or places that allow quick, easy weddings that we could do?

Help, we're both so frustrated, missing eachother and down in the dumps about it :(

For a start, you will not be allowed to get married in the UK unless your fiance has entered this country on a fiance's visa, as the marriage rules were changed in February this year. I presume in order to marry in any other country nearby you fiance would still have to apply for a visa to enter that country, then there is all the messing around complying with that country's rules for getting married.

your best bet is to either get married in the US so that your fiance could then apply directly for a spouse's visa from there, or apply now for a fiance's visa so that he can come over her to marry you (within 6 months) and then you will be able to apply for the spouse's visa from within the UK once you are married.

In your situation, I don't think it would be any easier going down the spouse route than it is to go down the fiance route! These days getting married is not the easy option!!!

Thanks very much for that, from what I've read, (If I've done it correctly!) then we can marry just as easy in New York where he lives, as in Vegas.. I think we just ned to apply for a licence out there or something.
I think we'll go down this route, it seems less drawn out than fiance visa route which he can't work on anyway.

:/ wish me luck, and thanks very much x

    Good luck to you both!

Applying from outside the UK is also cheaper (around £260), whereas if you had gone down the fiance route you would have had to pay £260 for the fiance visa in the US then another £400 for the in country spouse application!!! Getting married in the US means you'll just have to pay the £260 or so fee.

I hope everything works out for you. Unfortunately we both live in a country that likes to penalise people who don't marry someone British!! I'm sure it will all go smoothly for you though x
