    I have been living in the UK for about 2 years and have a UK driving license. My Maryland license is due to expire, but I don't want to give it up as if I return to the US, I would have to sit a US driving test.

    Is it possible to retain your US license if not living in the country?

    You can keep your driving licence without living in the country if there is no expiration date (it's the case in Europe where you can drive with the driving licence of any EU country with a standard EU driving licence).

    If you US driving licence has an expiry date, I'm afraid you won't be able to keep it indefinitly :confused: But you can still drive in the US with a UK one.

    If you go back to the US, and have a right to stay there other than being a tourist, i.e having an F-1 (student), M-1 (exchange), L-1 (intercompany transferee) or any other visa that allows you to work or study or stay there, then you can renew your US driving license without undergoing the driving tests again, and jsut plainly renewing it: surrendering your old one, and they give you a new one with new expiration dates.

    I'm still holding on to my VA license! :p
