    Dear all,

I (single/39/German) intend to move to London shortly.
Last offer on a job was Pds 41.000,- per annum gross.

Not too sure if this is sufficient to survive in London.

The company also offers a 10% non - contributionary pension scheme
plus discretionary bonus payable once a year.

Can somebody please give me a hint on how much 41.000,-
works out as a net salar - or let me know if there is a
website calculator to work out taxes and NHI contributions.

    Thanks a million.

    There's a salary calculator here:

    http://www.i-resign.com/uk/financialcen ... ulator.asp

which gives you a net salary of 29,331GBP.

I can't really say if this is sufficient to live in London - though it is the most expensive city in the EU (third in the World!) - but I have friends who earn not much less than that who have to share a house with other people as they can't afford to buy/rent on their own.

Informations are on the page London/Taxes.

For a gross salary of £41000 it gives you an after tax salary of £32452.4

You need also to remove your National Insurance contribution. For a common tax code (474 L) I take 12%.

Based on those assumptions, your net salary will be:
    £28,558

    Paris.. soon in London
    Did you get enough answers?

Both calculations above (below...??) give you approximately the same net figure.
It is true that London is extremely expensive however you need to know that the average salary is £30000
It does not mean that most people do not struggle.. they do but each manages to find a way to make it work.

Be aware that transport is also expensive so there is no point in spending £50 on a travelcard for a gain in rent that is equal or less than that amount...

Other things to consider are your life style, your activities. You can perhaps have enough to "survive".. but if like me you want to "enjoy" your hard work as well, would that be enough?

I suggest you get the average travelcard price for all the zones and identify how much you can really spend on rent, then see what is left for you.
I usually calculate rent to be at most one third of my NET.

    Good luck.

    same situation too

I am in the same situation too. From Austria to London, 45000k!!! So very similar. Just wondering, you are from Germany, what paperwork did you need to do before actually starting the job? As EU citizen, do I need to register somewhere that I am living/working in London? Do I need a National Insurance Number or something like that? I am lost! Please help!

Hi everyone! hope you can give me a piece of advice here.

I am a Filipino married with 2 kids. I recently received an email containing an offer letter from dexxon oil and gas company. I tried to background check the company thru the web but came up empty. I visited the website placed in the email and there it is.

Can anyone help me if this company's for real? I have had the misfortune of being at a receiving end of bogus youre-hired-companies.

Secondly, the offer was at 9500 monthly. I tried the site mentioned here so I have a pretty good idea how much that is..th question is..is it really enough? I value your opinion! Help! Please!
