✎ EN NI number and Bank account in the UK ?

    Hi I wonder if anyone could help with the following :

    1. I worked in the UK in 1997 and had an NI number during this time (I believe that your number will always remain the same) but I never kept a copy and am returning to the UK on an ancestral visa and would like to know where I can get my National Insurance number on the web prior to departing and without having to call the UK from South Africa ?

    2. At the same time I also had a bank account and how would I find out if my account from 7 years ago is still valid ?

    I think your question is part of the most common questions about NIN. And Inland Revenue provides an answer to that on their website in their FAQ:

    Regarding your bank account, just go to a branch of the bank where you have the account and ask them to retrieve your bank account in their system. They should be able to find it with your name, old address, date of birth... and give you details on the status.
