    Hello,

This is an excellent site I have found recently with loads of helpful info- thanks!
I plan to move to Madrid for the start of July, as there is a job for me :)

I believe you need a contract of employment in order to get a Residencia permit. I need to find somewhere to live before I start, and I do not have the contract of employment or anything else yet.

1- Can I start an accommodation contract without the Residencia? (and get it once I'm there and already working).
2- I'm an EU citizen (british)- do I really need a work permit? I thought not, but I've seen sample forms of work permits that have been completed by UK nationals etc.
3- Is there a way to apply for the NIE number while still in the UK, or is it just as easy and possible to apply for both at the same time once I'm there? (subject to question one being a Yes)

Hope someone can shed light on these questions. I've done a search and read many posts already. Sorry if I've overlooked the answer.

    Many thanks

    Hi,
Regarding your point 2, some European countries still request permits for non-national workers (includes Spain, france...). However, as far as I know, as a EU citizen, it's just a standard request and you will get it automatically (a bit like the NI in England: it's something to have, but EU citizens shouldn't get trouble to get one).

Thanks for that reply. I wrote to the london spanish consulate asking the same things. They just returned a photocopy of a piece of paper stating much of what was known already.

    1) It just said I need to register for a residencia if I'm going to be there for more than three months. As they didn't say I couldn't wait until I'm there, I will take that to mean I can.
    2) Not necessary to worry about permit, EU people don't need one. It will probably come automatically or easy enough anyway like you said above.
-It said nothing about my point 3). I will guess I can get it once I'm there then.

Hopefully limited bank funds to cover the beginning of a rental agreement will suffice, as I still don't know if a contract of employment is essential to start the agreement. If anybody knows please reply here- thanks.

ooooooo...I read the words "limited bank funds" and "accomodation" all in the same sentence. We have learned the hard way...make sure you have at least 4 months' rent saved. You will need first, last and security deposit just to walk into an accomodation so beware. And don't bother food shopping, it's cheaper to eat out with the Menu del Dia at most restaurants.

    Best of LUCK!
