Shoptime US citizen moving from UK to Spain

    Hello,

    I am a US citizen and recently married a EU citizen (UK). I now have a resident VISA from the UK and we both live in England. We are wanting to move to Spain and become residents in Barcelona. We own a small business in the UK which we plan on keeping, but working via email/online/phone when we are in Spain. So I guess we would be classified as "independent means" if we move to Spain, as we would not be employed by anyone in Spain. Do you know if there would be any problems with us receiveing the proper entry Visa's and Resdient Permits? What exactly would we need? Thanks!

    Hi,
    If you are married to a EU citizen, you get the same rights as a EU citizen. Therefore you shouldn't have any problem moving to Spain.

    If you are planning to stay more than 6 months in Spain, you will be required to pay your tax in Spain and you will have to declare your revenue to the Spanish Inland revenue (http://www.easyexpat.com/madrid_en/work_taxes.htm).

    I suggest you go to the Spanish consulate in London to get the documentation and the forms that you will need.
