I'm new to South korea this month. I've been here now just over 3 weeks. I came to teach English in 2 connected hagwon schools in Angang and Pohang.

I plan to be here for a year. I found work before I came through an agency. After a lot of work getting my documents together to get here I was pretty excited about arriving.

Since being here I am enjoying some aspects, such as the beautiful scenery and kind people. I'm also struggling with a few other aspects, such as the isolation of living in a small town where I am the only non-Korean and no one speaks English. Even my co-workers who speak English barely understand me because they are used to American English, rather than my British English.

I haven't met any other foreigners just yet - but hoping to soon. I'm relying a lot on skyping back to the UK.

Hopefully when I start visiting places like Busan, Deagu and Seoul I will start meeting people.

 

I am USA citizen starting to research S Korea as a possible place to spend some time and possible retirement destination. I'd like to gather any advice from anyone living there as a foreigner and thoughts regarding expat communities in Seoul or even in southern Korea, along the coast. I just joined on this site so not sure how large of a community it entails. Looking forward to any input. I appreciate it.
