Hello guys,

me and my husband we want to buy a property in Romania ( Cosmopolis, București — prețurile apartamentelor, imagini, hartă )
My question is the following, do you know if Romania has any Golden Visa programme? My husband is coming from the Middle East. We know that Greece and Portugal have, but my husband has some business there so we would be interested there.

Indeed, the first Golden Visa program was launched in Portugal on October 8, 2012, (in an effort to bring in badly needed funds as the bottom was falling out of the Portuguese real estate market).

For those who don't know exactly what is a "Golden Visa", this is simply the catch-all term for the various residence by investment programs where an individual makes an investment in the country and in exchange receives a residence permit (the conditions/duration depend on the country: it could be long term, but it could be also short term!) that grants the holder the right to live in the country and work towards citizenship according to the country’s regular naturalization timeline. Of course, technically those programmes are not calle "Golden Visa" but this is the term commonly used to name them.

In my research, I found only 13 countries in Europe offering a sort of "Golden Visa" option, and Romania is not part of them:

Austria,

Belgium,

Bulgaria,

Cyprus,

Greece,

Latvia,

Lithuania,

Malta,

Monaco,

Portugal,

Spain,

Switzerland, and

the United Kingdom

As far as I know, real estate is not part of the conditions to get a prefential treatment for a visa in Romania (check here: Romania investor visa » Golden investor visas).

I have called the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from Romania and they are telling me that they know anything about this kind of programme. We don't start our journey very well ))

It might not be called "Golden Visa" but Investor visa or similar. In anycase the "investor" visa is only when you setup a company and employ people. You cannot get a Golgen Visa in Romania buy buying a property.

how do I go about establishing residence short of marrying a Romanian woman?
