    How to immigrate into USA

    Hello Ophelie,

I am a french citizen and live and work in Paris. I'd like to settle in the States, in Maryland (DC, Baltimore) or else in NYC.

I don't know any french citizen there, I read a lot about finding a job and having a visa to go there, but it seems to be so complicated.

I am a little bit upset because I've got the impression that's so difficult.

I wonder if you could give me a piece of advice (how to find a job, how to get in touch with people there, networking....). I don't know how to begin.

Thank you a lot for your help. :)

    Amodine,

I've lived in Europe so I can give you a bit of what I have experienced.

Your best bet is to find a French Company in NY who will hire you. You would have to find a job that you qualify for which no other American's are suitable for the job.

Just as it sounds so complicated, it is just the same process if any american wanted to travel and live in France. You have to go through the same process and the laws are so complicated that it nearly makes it impossible for anyone to want to do so unless they invest money and create a new company.

    Money talks...

I'd recommend trying Canada before NY as the process is easier and you can apply for a skilled worker permit if you qualify with much more ease...

Canada and Australia employ a point system where they qualify you to immigrate based on the skills and experience and educational background you have. Go to their respective websites by doing a search on Google coz I know for Australia, you can download a bunch of forms and papers that will explain how the process works, all the fees involved, etc.

    Good luck!
