    Indeed, the first Golden Visa program was launched in Portugal on October 8, 2012, (in an effort to bring in badly needed funds as the bottom was falling out of the Portuguese real estate market).
    In my research, I found only 13 countries in Europe offering a sort of "Golden Visa" option, and Romania is not part of them:
    1. Austria,
    2. Belgium,
    3. Bulgaria,
    4. Cyprus,
    5. Greece,
    6. Latvia,
    7. Lithuania,
    8. Malta,
    9. Monaco,
    10. Portugal,
    11. Spain,
    12. Switzerland, and
    13. the United Kingdom
    As far as I know, real estate is not part of the conditions to get a prefential treatment for a visa in Romania (check here: Romania investor visa » Golden investor visas).

    I have called the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from Romania and they are telling me that they know anything about this kind of programme. We don't start our journey very well :)))

    It might not be called "Golden Visa" but Investor visa or similar. In anycase the "investor" visa is only when you setup a company and employ people. You cannot get a Golgen Visa in Romania buy buying a property.

    I am new to the forum and also interested in buying an apt in Bucharest. could anyone tell me the best area to buy in? whats considered their Beverly Hills sort of speak? any agents you trust?


    how do I go about establishing residence short of marrying a Romanian woman?
