Hello Instal sat and welcome on EasyExpat.com (you should put a photo in your profile ;-) ).

The electronic card E or E+ certify the legality of residence in Belgium for members of the E.E.E. (European Union + Island + Liechtenstein + Norway); they are not residence permits as it is not mandatory for EU members who can freely move into EU countries (directive 2004/38/CE) but only certify that you have registered.

The card models E prove that the foreign national is registered on the Foreign Nationals Register (temporary). Valid for 5 years but can be withdrawn during the first 3 years if you become a charge for the Belgium social system. After that you can move to card E+.

The card, models E+ prove that the foreign national is registered on the Population Register (permanent residence). It is valid for 5 years from the date of issue and renewed without condition.

Non EU family members of a EU citizen receive a card F or F+.

You will find other information on living and being expat in Belgium in our guide.
