Anyone know if it's possible to get an EU grant of some kind to help buy and/or install solar panels in Menorca? We have a working farm/finca and would like to generate our own electricity (via the feed-in tariff) to run the pump for irrigation (and for the house?) but don't have the capital for the initial outlay...

The European Union offers funding for up to 265 million euro (Dec 2011) .

Under the Renewable Energy Directive 2009, each country is required to source a percentage of energy needs from renewable sources, including biomass, hydro, wind and solar power by 2020. Thus, the UK government plans to cut more than halve solar subsidies, means that they could face legal action from the European Commission.

But grants are only offered to those systems recognised by the EU by the quality solar keymark. The subsidies go to EU governments, research and businesses. More information here.
