    Possibly.

I'm trying to figure out what I should make in pounds in order to keep at my same lifestyle. I live in New York City and make $90,000. My company has offered me $60,000 which makes sense on conversion but someone told me I should make MORE in pounds, like 50% more, in order to keep a similar lifestyle because of the cost of London. Does this make sense?

    You mean £60 000 (GBP not USD) ?! :eek:h:

I disagree with the 50% more because NYC is very expensive in term of accommodation for example.
You can use our cost of living convertor to get an idea: if you enter $90 000 you get $85035 as an equivalent salary or 46 204 GBP in today's GBP (use our converter).

So £60K is a good offer. But you have to remember that as an expatriate you will have probably additional travels (flights) to go back to America to visit your firends and family.

    Yes, pounds, sorry. :)

Thank you. I keep getting conflicting information though. I talked to a recruiter over there and he also agreed that I should be getting almost my equal of salary in pounds. Like if I make 90,000 American, 90,000 pounds. Very confusing.

Another question: so none of my appliances, my DVD player, my laptop, my Ipod, will work in London huh? Do people rent these items during their stay?

Canary Wharf --- what does anyone know about that area?

No problem for your Ipod or Laptop, you will only need a plug adaptor.

Regarding your DVD player, the problem is the difference of zone. Unless it is a multi-zone DVD player (in that case, it's just a matter of plug) you will only be able to play DVDs from your zone, i.e. 1. The DVD zone in Europe is 2.

Canary Wharf is very close to work... if you work in CW. It's modern and a bit far from West End, but transport is convenient... it really depends on your style of life.
