I hope it's not considered too cheeky to sign up and ask a question straight off the bat but from looking around, this board seems to be the best place to get some of my queries answered.

Can anyone tell me the best way to go about this?

My fiance and I have been together for almost 3 years coming back and forth between the US and the UK along with an extended stay in Spain together. We're hoping to do the same here in the UK, so we can properly be together for a decent chunk of time and also so my fiance can get a bit of a taste for the UK before we make our decisions on where we would like to settle. I'm also set to have surgery in this time and we'd like to be together for that.

However we're both have a bit of anxiety concerning customs. We're aware that legally a US citizen is entitled to stay for up to 6 months but we're concerned that an extended stay would trigger further questioning from customs and them being funny about relationships. Is this correct? Also if so how is it best to approach customs? Does my fiance just play it casual saying she's taking an extended break visiting friends along with evidence proving ties to the US or does she tell them the whole story? We have no intention of overstaying because that would only jeopardise our future plans together. What can we do to ensure as far as we can that we will be ok? Or are we worrying unnecessarily?

Thank you for reading this. Any help and input is greatly appreciated.

    Cheers.

Welcome on EasyExpat.com and happy new year!
It is perfectly fine to ask questions. When I think about so many spammer using forums only to advertise their "service" it is actually quite good :) I hope you will get much help from the expat community. :geek:
