    greetings to all,
I am an american who lives in salt lake city, utah. I am 37 yrs old male and feel it's time for me to make a change....of which includes relocating. I am very interested in coming to vienna and making a new life. One filled with life, fun and opportunity. I already have a passport and am currently planning a trip to vienna in August of this year and would really appreciate any advice on making this trip as productive as possible to the tune of employment (summer work would be a start), where to live and how to decide, and social networks. I have a 2 year goal and will be heartily working towards this goal with passion and diligence. I hope to make some life long friends here and look forward to any and all help. thanks so much

Sounds like a very exciting change! Your first step should be checking out the easy expat guide to Vienna: http://www.easyexpat.com/en/vienna.htm. It has sections on short-term & long-term employment, housing, visas, entertainment etc.

People's personal experiences are also really helpful. On BlogExpat there are two blogs with people talking about the success & trials they had in moving to Vienna: http://www.blogexpat.com/en/search-result.htm

    Best of luck!

Thats a great idea if you ask me. Vienna, 'The city of Musicians' is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe and is relatively cheaper compared to other Western European capitals. Its not a big city either and not as crowded and suffocating as Paris or London for example.

The first thing you should do, in my opinion, is to look into your immigration status. Being a US citizen, I dont' think you will be allowed to work - even though you can travel visa free. So that wil be the starting point and the most important. Being able to speak a bit of German, at least communication level, would also increase your chances of finding work.

    Good luck !

I think the German is not so important. In Austria are a lot of international companies which search for English speaking persons. I have no idea about your education or what kind of job you want to do, but German is hard to learn in a short period. I know you can find information for work in LinkeDin group for Vienna, they you can interchange your experience with others.
A other really good website is Just Landed. There you can search for work, friends and German/ English Tandem. http://community.justlanded.com/en/Austria_Vienna/forum I do not know if the websites can help you, but they describe different views and have a lot of experience for jobs and life. Katja :) Good Luck
