So I submitted my documents through an attorney, first to reclaim my grandfather's and mother's citizenship. Sent in grandfather's polish birthcertificate, us natz certificate, mother's austrian birth cert (born in DP camp) and us natz certificate, mother's passport page. All apostilled and translated.

This was probably submitted to polish government in February I'm hoping, going to contact the attorney and get a status update again, but last time I contacted him, his response was:

" would like to inform you that I have not received yet update from Polish authorities. They have got all require documents.

I expect that they are waiting for information from Polish archives. That is reason why I have not been updated by them..."

Anyone have any insight on how long this could take, or could it just end up sitting on someones desk and need some encouragement?

I too submitted paperwork in February (last year) and I was told 'August'.
Sure enough, in August I got an update: My mom would get Confirmation
in October and I would get mine in December (I actually got it in January).

So, about a year (for a straightforward case) plus a few months for PESEL
and Polish passport sounds about right - at least that's how it was for me.
