    Hey there,

i'm jess, 19 years old and i am from australia. My grandparents on my mother's side were both polish and imigrated to australia just before my mother was born in the 60's. Through this blood relation i was able to obtain a polish passport through my grandparents. My polish passport expired 2 years ago and i would idealy like to re-new it. How do i go about this?

Also, if i was to enter poland on my polish passport, would this mean i would get conscripted into the army etc? Although i may have held a polish passport, when living in europe we never actually went to poland. It was far to out of our way, and we didn't end up having the time or the money. I would like to know the answer to the question so i know whether to enter poland on my polish passport or whether i should enter on my australian one.

    Thanks muchly,
    jess :)

Hi Jess - okay, I think I'll take a stab at this (though I'm hardly expert):

As for Polish passport renewal, this should (most likely) be accomplished
through your consulate in Australia (assuming that you do still live there).

As for conscription, Poland suspended compulsory military service in 2008
and then later amended its laws which formally abolished it in early 2009.

As for travel, a Polish citizen (even of dual nationality) should enter/exit
Poland with a valid Polish passport (as one is "Polish", first and foremost).

This being said, could you enter/exit Poland on your Australian passport?
Probably, but you'd be governed under Schengen Law for non-EU citizens.

So, my advice? Renew your Polish passport and enter/exit Europe with it.

Have Fun in Beautiful Poland! :)
