    1. I am an eea national (swiss) who wants to "reside" (see #2) in the uk. However, the only status that applies to me is the "economically self-sufficient' as i will be doing research for my postgraduate. Does anyone know how much $ is needed to prove this?

    2. Additionally, i am predominantly applying to reside in uk because my wife who is american wants to live/work there while i finish my studies. Do you think this is problematic/illegal/high risk to do this? I will be most of the time be in switzerland finishing up school (1.5yrs) but she will be in uk full-time. This is the best way we came up with to have both of us progress in our respective fields and be closer to each other (at least than the us). She does not speak german so that is the problem with her finding work here.

    Thank you!

1 - as long as you ( both ) have enough money to support yourself, that should be enough.

2 - She will need to get an EEA Family Permit first from the UK embassy in Switzerland and then apply for a residence card ( EEA2 ). However, she can't stay in the UK when you are not there ( exercising your treaty rights ). You need to remember that she derives her right to live and work in UK solely from your being in the UK and exercising treaty rights.

    Good luck
