I am a canadian citizen living in the united states with a permanent resident card, divorced from a us citizen engaged to a uk citizen ...

My fiance and i were planning on going for the fiance visa ...but our recent 3 month visit together in the uk has cinched the fact that we want to get married first and do the spousal visa not only because we love each other and want to be married but it would save us from the cost of the spousal visa 6 months after i get there and i will be able to look for employment right away ...my question is with me living in the us at the moment, i am unemployed and my ex husband allows me to live in the furnished basement of the house that he lives and owns, rent free in exchange for taking care of the cleaning and taking care of his daughter while hes working ..only thing i have to pay for is my food which i use my small savings for ...my fiance works full time at the same company for almost 6 yrs ...will this situation cause any problems with my spousal visa and seeing that im not being paid to do this im assuming i don't put that im getting any income from this and it also asks about how much i put out for expenses but the only thing i have is food which doesn't amount to much seeing its just me ...

For spouse visa application, it would be your husband's income which would be taken into account and not yours i.e. he is going to be your sponsor.

    Good luck

Proving that you both have enough money for all your needs once you arrive in the UK is a must for both of the applications. It doesn't NECESSARILY have to be your spouse though but in any case, referring back to your first question, your current financial condition is irrelevant IF your spouse has enough funds to support both of you.

    Good luck
