please could you assess our situation and point us in the right direction as to what to do next and which is the best visa for us to apply for.

I am currently a UK citizen, my girlfriend is a US citizen, and we are both single and both free to marry.

I currently use the 90 day visa waver program to enter the country and do this trip several times a year. My first question, is by doing this is there a limit to how many times they will let me in? When asked why am I here I am truthful and tell them I am here on business ( I will explain later) there never seems to be any real problems saying this, although I have heard a few stories where people are stopped entering if they are entering to many times, is this right? Might I be stopped entering on this basis? Is there a maximum limit to the amount of times I can enter on a visa waver program.

I am a self employed Marketing consultant, and work over here when I am here advising companies on marketing, I invoice them and they pay me a check, my second question is, is this legal as I don’t have my social security number? The third question is how do I get my social security number.

We would like to marry within the next 12 months, based on what I have told you, what is the best way to go about this? Do we have to get married over here? (USA) Or could we marry in Ireland? Will I have to stay in the UK while I wait for a visa or could I still come in and out as I please, I stay here about 2 months at a time.

I have no legal reason why I shouldn’t be allowed a visa, but based on what I have told you, what do you think the chances are of getting a permanent visa, and roughly how long does it take. Lastly if I manage to get a work permit, could I marry her on that?

As you can see I need some serious help. Thank you all in advance

Your employment in the US is illegal, FYI, so keep it hush hush. You can get a social security number if you are: 1) student on an F-1, 2) employed with a valid work permit, or 3) spouse of a US citizen while your US citizenship is being processed.

Having said that, I would suggest you get married in the US in civil rites. YOu can go to your (or her) local county office and register for marriage. The process is very simple and straightforward, but advise you to check with the county as each county ash their own set of rules.

Once you've been married, your wife now applies for your spouse visa, and move from there.
