Hey, First of all, I must say this site is extremely helpful and I thank all the individuals that take the time to provide us with this information..... moving on..

Here is my story. I am a 22yr old student living in Canada. My mother, brothers, step father are all Danish citizens now living in the UK, I was never raised by them and recently united 4 years ago. We tried unsuccessfully to obtain a visa for me In Denmark, they citied that i was 18 yrs old and no longer a dependent...

So i went back to Canada, and currently a student. I have no family here and wish to be reunited with them. Through my campus study abroad programs, I learnt of the EEA Family Permit In the UK...so my question is...am i eligible for this? the criteria they gave on UKVISAS is confusing..i dont know if u have to be under 21 or not...

technically speaking I am not financially dependent as i survive on bursaries, grants, and loans..But they help me out when I can...My hope is to permanently move to the United KingdoM...So my initial idea was to go over there as an international exchange student for a year and after that see if i can obtain the EEA Family permit... I dont know if this is permissible...I apologize for the long email, and would appreciate any feedback on my situation...thank you again

Hi. Well regarding your question all I can say is I don't know!

HOWEVER, personally I think you are trying the more difficult way instead of just going the easy way, eh?

Given the fact that you are living in Canada I take it that you are Canadian? I am a Canadian citizen as well and wanting to move to the UK I took up German citizenship as my mom also has dual citizenship. This way I could have both and did not have to give up my Canadian citizenship. So what I would rather recommend for you would be to take up Danish Citizenship based on your mom being Danish. There should be no problem with that. Canada allows dual citizenship since somewhen back in the 80s I think. I am not sure about Denmark but it should be possible as well.

Bottom line is: take your birth certificate that has your mom's name on it and get a photocopy of her passport and go to the nearest Danish High Comission or Embassy and ask them whether you can take up Danish Citizenship.
