i am a canadian, living in the uk with my british fiance on a 6 month vistors leave to remain. want to marry, but CoA was refused (AFTER we paid... thieves) because of false info given by the home office (i was on a 6 month vistors since june 05, rep at home office said all i needed was to land in canada, fly back into uk and my visa would be renewed. i did, in dec 05 to return just 6 days later. except he conveniently forgot to tell me that i would get hassled by immigration who thought i was blagging and stamped a 'warning' on my passport, i now cannot leave the country to return - i'll likely get deported)

we have recently read in newspapers that the High Court has ruled that a mandatory certificate of approval is against human rights, and the law has been suspended. now, is this our window of opportunity to get married at a registery office before the home office appeals?

any information would be a massive help, as my visa expires in middle of june.

    many thanks

Is it true that there is no longer a need of COA( certificate of approval) to get married in UK ??

    Any updates on CoA?

Have there been on updates on what is happening with certificates of approval since the High Court ruling in April?

I am a US citizen have been living in the UK for about two years, first as a student and now with FLR with Fresh Talent in Scotland, and just got engaged to a UK citizen. I called the Home Office last week to ask what I would need to do to get married and they told me that I would need to apply for the CoA still.

Also, they told me that once I got the CoA I only had 3 months to give notice to marry and be actually married (we are getting married in a Catholic church). Is that true? I called the Registration office and they said we only had to give notice to marry within that 3 months, and then be married 3 within 3 months of getting that.

Is it just me or does the Home Office have no idea what is going on?
