My fiancé (he is a UK citizen) and I (US citizen) plan to marry here in the US when I finish my studies in early December. How feasible is it that we could marry in Illinois one day, then apply in person at the Consulate in Chicago and have a spouse visa the next day? Truly, I’d prefer to be with him as soon as possible and not have to wait until after December, so is this plan advisable or would we be smarter to marry a week (or month?) or so in advance, apply for the visa and then join him as planned in December? I’ve read several stories about people who get visas in one day, but I’m not sure that we should count on it.
My fiancé has had the same job in information technology for eight years, his salary is 32,000 GBP, he is a homeowner, and both of us are in our thirties. Will these things help us even though we actually did meet online a few years ago? We have met in person a couple times though.
