I am from a non-EU country and will be coming to the EU for languague studies in 2 weeks. I plan to stay for 3 months only as I will not need a visa. I was just wondering, is it easier if i tell them at the port of entry that I am studying, or simply traveling? I do have a letter issued by the school but I don't want to be challenged.

Also if I would like to stay for a little longer (maybe for another month of classes or just traveling around), should I just leave EU briefly, say going to Norway or Morocco, then come back in again? Will they question me badly or is this rather common?

    Thanks a lot!

Immigration officers are tough cookies, hun.

I wouldnt suggest lying to one no matter the circumstances. If they find out you're lying even at a later date, they can revoke your visa and have you deported to your country of nationality.

    :(

If you're wanting to study, I'd suggest a student visa. They really aren't all that expensive and if you've already got a letter from the school, you should be fine.

I'm fairly sure most EU student visas are for multiple entry...

My guess is that you are non visa national. You dont need visa prior to your entry. If this is the case you dont need student or any other visa to come and study few weeks in the UK.
    Where do you come from?

Triple H, you are right, I am a non visa national and I was told that if I dont stay longer than 3 months, I will not need to bother getting a visa. Seraphina's suggestion is definitely more safe, however.

Im from Hong Kong, we can enter any country in the EU and stay for max 3 months without a visa. I don't plan to stay illegally in Europe, but was just wondering if I decided to stay for an extra month or so for traveling or whatnot, would going to Morocco-and-back be an option for me?

"You asked if a national of Hong Kong (SAR Passports) needs a visa to come to the UK as a student for six months or less.

No, you do not need a visa.

On arrival in the UK you must satisfy an immigration officer that you qualify for entry to the United Kingdom as a student for six months or less under the Immigration Rules.

    Students
Please note that if you are allowed to enter the UK as a student for up to six months, you will not be allowed to extend your stay unless you arrived with a student or prospective student visa, or are studying on a course at degree level or higher. The Home Office will charge you a fee for applying to extend your stay."

Now, if you want to leave UK have a holiday and come back may cause a problem.
You maybe better off getting multiple entry visitors or student visa.

I am really sorry I did not make myself clear enough...I am going to Spain, not England. Although my first stop is in London (2 day stay), I will be studying in Spain. Does your theory also apply there I wonder...well Ive got 3 months for sure, but 6 month sounds quite good to me.
