I also received my EEC residence permit yesterday by post.

It took altogether 8 weeks for me.

I faxed them some documents twice.

Before I applied, I received a job offer to start working on 1 Aug. So I faxed them my job offer letter after waiting for three weeks. My future employer was also willing to write me another letter to the Home Office. It's a large organization. I faxed this letter on 7 July, and apparently my permit was approved on the date of the second fax.

Then it took them a few more weeks to process the rest.

I think if you have some special reasons, contacting them by fax with supporting documents may speed up the process. However, I think faxing them every day may not be a good idea.

Thank you very much for all your help, in particular dromi. Good luck to you all.

Can you give the model of the letter that you used to fax the home office to ask them to expedite your visa faster?
    Thank you,

All this waiting sounds intimidating. I'm going over to the US to marry my partner at Christmas - if he gets the EEA Familt Permit stamp in his passport from the British Embassy over there, will he be able to come over here and work straight away, or will we have to wait for the EEC1 form to be processed?

    Alabama,
if he gets the EEA Family Permit at the British Embassy/Consulate, he will be able to work as soon as he arrives here! No problem! So not needed to worry about it, ok? :)

Wow...A lot of good news. I juse want to know, is there any of you are applying the Unmarried Partner using the EEC1 Form? I am a bit confused, becuase I believe the Family Permit and Unmarried Partner are quite different in the case of consideration. I am applying as Unmarried Partner using EEC1, don't know if any one have some more info about this. I am very worry about the approval. Dose that mean, if I got a job offer, it will be much easier? I am looking for a job as well, but most of the employer just saying, without a work permit, we would not be able to offer you a position. Wonder how do you guys be able to persuade them? Great thanks to those who can help, and to those who share the info on the site.  Congratulations to all those who has the VISA already!

    Hi lc20m,

I applied with EEC1 form. I am Brazilian citizen and my partner is german.
We just sent A LOT of documents proving the 2 year relationship along with the others documents required (passport, pictures, proof of employment of european partner and passport of eu partner as well).

I got a visa valid for 2 years, and a letter telling that I can apply for indefinite leave to remain in 2 years (it is a bit strange cause my partner is german and not british), but anyway, the form EEC1 can be used for same sex dependent of european citizen!

You have to wait for your visa (if your actual visa doesnt not allow you to work) for you to apply for a job.
My visa took 4 months and a half, and i had to wait all this time until i could look for a job.

Thank you very much, Glauco, you solved a lot of my questions. The Home office said the same thing to us, (and my partner is a French), they says, as long as the partner is a EU citizen, the dependend can apply In...Leave To remain in UK after 2 years. Congratulations for your VISA. May I know a bit more detail about what kind of document you have send? I have send out our tenancy contract, each of ours bank statements which show the same address, NHS, utility bill, his work contract, etc etc. in total, there are about 12 document from him, and 12 document from me,those documents covers nearly 2 and a half years period. Do you think that's enough? 4 and a half month, that's a bit long. I am just waited for 2 month, still got a long way to go. I am so afraid that they won't approve it, I really don't want to leave him. Anyway, thank you very much for your help. Hope you have a nice day.

    Hi lc20mc.
you will have no problems at all! You are sending enough documents, and important ones. I am sure you will get your visa with no doubts! The only bad thing is the waiting time. That sucks a lot. While I was waiting I couldnt do anything, I couldnt work, etc... but after you get the visa everything is fine!
I sent the same amount of documents than you, and I cohabitated this 2 year period in germany, so ALL my documents were in german. I didnt send ANY document in English, and I got the visa with no problem!
I sent one document per month of cohabitation, and me and my partner had lived exactly 2 years on the day we sent our application - no day more, no day less. It was the EXACT day when we completed 2 years living together :)
I entered the country as a tourist, and I applied for the visa as a tourist, and there was no problems with that either.

The worst thing is when we call the Home Office. The only thing they tell us is: "awaiting for consideration" or "under consideration", and they give no more details than that. I get quite irritated when I call there.

    You will be very fine!!!
Take care and if needed, write me,
    Glauco

Thank you very much Glauco, That makes me feel better now. So I guess the only thing i can do is wait now. Next month, it will be the third month of my waiting time. :( and I really want to know the result. As I am trying to apply for job now, it will be great if I can tell my future employer that I have the right to work in UK. (I am working for the moment, using my student VISA, which is going to expired at the end of November. ) Anyway, Best wishes for all those who are still waiting, fingers cross. i will keep you guys informed if i got any news! good day!

    I have two questions:

1- What if your partner's family permit expire in the meantime? Will he/she be still living legally in the UK?

2- Can you send the documents (passports, certificates, etc.) by "Signed for" mail?

    Thanks!

According to Home office, if your old family permit expired before your new one arrive, you will be able to stay in uk legally until the new decision is made, and your status will not changed.

The most secure way to send the document should be "Sign for", and don't forget to put down the insurance value, especially when there is passport involved.I hope that will help

Hello everyone, we got the VISA! :D After 14 and a half week's waiting. We finally got it. It is all because we had send out 2 fax, and one letter, saying we are about to move our house, and we need to prove the agencies that we have the right to leave in uk. Anyway, It is good to get it. I hope everyone else who are still waiting don't give up hope. Will have it sooner or later.Apparently, it is really helpful if you can sent them a fax and explain your reason to speed up the process. Of course, it has to be a real urgent reason. The people on the phone are really helpful, if you are being nice to them, they will be nice to you as well, so... Don't worry. we have to understand that they have their difficulties as well, sitting there a whole day and answering phone calls. Anyway ,good luck to everyone.

Just adding something: people there are hepful on the phone when you dial option 2.
When you call there they tell: dial 1 for a question on your application or 2 or a general enquiry. I always got a better attention with option number 2!!

Congratulations on your visa. It´s quite relieving, isnt it?
Mine took as well about the sametime(15 weeks), and I just got because I sent many faxes and told I needed the passportback to register with NHS, and that they needto see a proof that I could live in the country to be able to register with the NHS. Then they sent the passportback with the visa!!!

    We got our Visa!

We applied for the EEC1 at the end of July, and we actually got it last Monday, making it about 3 months and a half. But, we got it without having to enquire and we got 5 years! There is hope out there!

-the only problem was they actually sent the passports back to the wrong postcode... luckily a postman redirected it
