    Hi Friends,
I have been in canada for last one year and I am a permanent resident over here.My company wants to send me to u.s for training but they have no idea how to get visa for permanent residents.I need to be in u.s by 29th of Aug,and I have heard one cant get an appointment before 2 months. So,can someone please tell me what would be the best approach and which way it would be cheaper for the company-if i apply for a travel/visitor visa or a business visa. Please help asap.
    Thanks

Hi! You didn't mention how long the training will be though. Generally, the US Emabssy will give you a visa valid for 5-10 years, if you apply for a B-1/B-2 visa (B-1 referring to business and B-2 referring to tourist). They usually lump this together and there is no separate visa for tourists and for business travellers, as more often the case is, people who go to the US sometimes do so for business and pleasure.

Now, since you are a permanent resident of Canada (you also didn't mention what country you hold a passport from), this should be evident in the form of a sticker and/or a card from the Canadian Embassy as proof of your permanent residency. If you have such proof, then you can travel to the US without visas at all, as you are one step away from being a Canadian citizen.

It would be still wise to consult an immigration lawyer, as they are very familiar with visa types and requirements per visa. Deal only with an immigration law firm, as there re differnt types of lawyers and law firms.
