I think that there are only 3 EU countries where Gay marriage have happenned: Danemark, Holland and Belgium.
As it is really rare, I have doubts that a non EU would be allowed to get into the process...

As the EasyExpat Admin said, rightly so. Those are the only three countries which recognises gay-marriage and allows it to take place in their localities.

In the Netherlands you can be sponsored by your gay partner for immigration purposes but it still have to follow the usual EU immigration rules vis-a-vis job, accommodation, national insurance etc.

Spain approves gay marriage: Today, Spain's parliament gave initial approval to a law legalising the right of homosexual couples to marry and adopt children.

Under the proposed bill, Spanish Civil Law would include the phrase: "Matrimony shall have the same requisites and effects regardless of whether the persons involved are of the same or different sex."

The vote in parliament was passed by 183 votes, with 136 against and six abstentions.

If the bill is approved by the Senate as expected, it will make Spain the third EU country to authorise gay marriages after Belgium and the Netherlands.

3 countries for gay marrige ? i think is more !!

    Hello,

i am not a "expertee" on things but as gay guy i do know some about this .... All Scandinavian countries (Finland,Norway,Sweden,Denmark,Iceland) have they own way for Family reunification for gay couple, the rights are the same that a straight couple would have if they were getting married, also as you guys said before belgium netherlands has it, germany for what i heard has some sort of gay union but not quite sure if that entitles you to get a permit of stay or work permit spain has recently aprove the law that allow gays to get married
the UK and France has some sort of things to be together with your same sex parthner even IF you are a NON EU citizen switzerland recently aproved gay union in conclusion ... Lots of European countries (excluding Italy and Austria extremely catholics countries) has aproved some kind of law that allows gay people to be recognize as a couple and be able to live together .

As your boyfriend is German and an EU citizen, you should be OK for moving to the UK, although it may depend on your nationality and place of current residence, and it seems that he may need to go there first so as to be 'resident' there. In addition, in late December this year, civil unions will be legal in the UK, so if you wait until then you may have more options.

If you go to www.ukvisas.gov.uk and look at the unmarried partners information you will learn more, the most relevant seems to be as follows:

Can I join my unmarried partner in the UK?
You can apply to join your unmarried partner in the UK, as long as:

they currently live and are settled in the UK, or they are coming to live permanently in the UK, and
you are aged over 18 and your sponsor is aged over 18.
    Back to questions

How do I qualify to join my unmarried partner in the UK?
You and your unmarried partner must show that:

any previous marriage, or similar relationship, has permanently broken down
you have been living together in a relationship similar to marriage for two years or more
you have suitable accommodation which is owned or lived in only by you and your household, and where you and your dependants can live without any help from public funds
you can support yourselves and any dependants without any help from public funds
you intend to live together permanently
your partner is not under 18, and
    you are not under 18.
The Entry Clearance Officer will need to see evidence of a two-year relationship. This may include:

documents showing joint commitments, such as bank accounts, investments, rent agreements or mortgages
letters linking you to the same address, and
official records of your address, such as your National Insurance card or health card.
At first, you will be allowed to stay and work in the UK for two years. Near the end of this time, if you are still partners and intend to continue living together, you can apply to stay permanently in the UK.
