Hi peoples,

My first posting, but something quite important to me and my fiancé, so if anyone knows, the information would be much appreciated.

The scenario:
I'm Irish, living and working professionally in London. My fiancé is American, living and working professionally in New York.

We have been together less than a year, but plan to marry so we can be together, whether living in the US or UK - undecided.

The question:
As an Irishman (i.e. EU citizen), does that automatically make me a UK citizen for all intensive purposes, i.e. if we wish to marry, will my fiancé get automatic citizen status to live with me and work in the UK or are there rules like having to be together more than two years or other similarly annoying red tape?
