    Hi there,

I guess my query may be a bit complicated, so here it goes.

I am a non – EU national who will shortly be marrying my British girlfriend. We have been together at University since October 2003 and have decided to get married in August this year. Whilst I will be graduating this summer, my girlfriend is still at University, what complicates matters more is that she will be moving to Germany in September for a year at a German University as part of her degree. My girlfriend is both a British and Italian national, our query is this:

    1. When we marry this August, we have applied for a COA, must I apply for change of status i.e. extend my leave to remain as a spouse in the UK ?

    2. Considering that my girlfriend will be moving to Germany, will I have to remain in Britain or can I move to Germany with her ?

    3. As both of us have been students thus far, and neither of us has been working full time, how would we show adequate finances – I can have money transferred from home, but how much ?

    4. Likewise as I am graduating and my girlfriend is leaving for Germany, neither of us will have a permanent address any longer in Britain, in such a situation what can we do ? After all, if I were to enter into a contract for a house without knowing whether I will be living in the UK or Germany it would prove to be a bad financial decision.

    5. Could someone please advise a lawyer who deals with similar cases, I have checked the OISC web pages, but am not very sure  ?

Don’t know whether this is relevant or not, I used to be a Canadian Permanent Resident, however I voluntarily gave up my right last June. My entire family are Canadian nationals.

    Cheers,

    RJ
