Me - British citizen by birth, Canadian Permanent Resident (eventually citizen, hopefully)

Him - Canadian Citizen by birth

We are not married but I got Permanent Residency on the basis of a common-law marriage as we have been together for 3 years.

If in the future I got a job offer in the Netherlands, is there any way he can come with me and work? I used to live there and love it, but I don't know if my partner can come with me, especially as we are not married. However, we can prove easily we are in a common-law relationship. Would this count? If not, any other suggestions as to how to go about it?

If we waited until I have Canadian citizenship (another 2 years), then moved to UK under unlimited unmarried partner visa (available if we've been together 4 or more years outside the UK, which by then would be the case), then worked for 3-5 years there so he was eligible for naturalisation and got a British passport, would he then be entitled to work anywhere in Europe like Europeans are currently allowed to do? This seems rather long winded!

    Thanks for your help!

You shouldn't have any problem. Yes, if you have a job he is entitled to a Permit. After living in the Netherlands for 5yrs he would be entitled to a Dutch Passport .

The only hurdle is to get all your documents legalised. Once that is done it cuts back on the bureaucracy and delays. Soon as you are ready to move do get in touch again.

    Regards

She was just so happy, you wouldn't want to know what she said. That was why a reply was posted after 10.00pm when the lights are all out! :p !

Nothing wrong with a bit o' Nederlands. :D

Btw, forgot yesterday; do you have to be married or will long-term common-law marriage (proved by my Can. PR) do?
