    Hello and welcome!

Working as an au pair is a great way to become familiar with another culture, discover life abroad, and/or to practice and improve a foreign language.

What advice would you give to prospective au pairs in Belgium?

How did you find your family? Are you part of an agency? How did you find your agency – by putting up an ad or through word-of-mouth? You may use EasyExpat’s Au Pair listings in Belgium.

How do you like the work and your family? Are you offered pocket money? What tasks are you asked to do – cleaning, cooking, or just childcare? Do you have free time?

What other activities do you like to do? Are you able to make friends? Have you had to learn the language?

Please share your experience with the other forum members. Many thanks in advance! :D

    Hi!

I was an Au Pair in Belgium in 2011-2012 and highly recommend girls to jump in this experience.

I found my family on aupair-world.net and everything went smoothly.
The family was great, I had my own part of the house, a 450 euro stipend and a lot of free time (most weekend and 2 weeks os vacation). My tasks involved looking after the children after school and keeping their things tidy, and sometimes cooking dinner.
I didn't have to learn Dutch because everyone spoke English, but I did take French lessons in Brussels and that was awesome.
I got to travel a lot around Europe and make a lot of friends!

Thanks for sharing your experience Ana Elisa Miranda! It sounds like a really positive experience and hopefully will encourage others to follow their au pair abroad dreams :D

What did you do after your au pair experience? Did it help you find further jobs and opportunities? Are you still in contact with the family you worked with?

Thanks again Ana! Anyone else have questions or experiences to share?

It was indeed very positive. I really hope it inspires other young people to listen to their hearts and have the courage to go.

I am majored in English Teaching and both times I went back home to Brasil (I was also an Au Pair in the USA) I found a job easily.

I am still in contact with both host families and I am back in Belgium now. I haven't found a job yet, but I have just released an eBook about my life abroad as an Au Pair.

I blog about Life Abroad and other things and the book is available on www.anaelisamiranda.com

    I hope it's helpful!
