Need suggestion to bring my mother

Postby rohitshrestha » Sat Jan 14, 2012 10:32 pm

Dear All,
I am PhD student just arrived in Belgium 4 months back. I am processing to bring my family here since I am staying for at least four years. There are four members in my family, me, my wife, mother and my 6 years daughter. I am processing to bring my family here and I heard that I can bring my wife and daughter here but no my mother. Is it true? Can not I bring my mother here? WHY? Should I leave her there(at my home country) alone?
Is there any process to bring her here to stay with me? She can not stay alone there. So could anyone please suggest me what should I do?
Hoping for best answers.

Thanks in advance
Rohit

What is your current status in the country and what kind of visa are you seeking for your family? The EasyExpat guide to Brussels offers advice on all matters of expating in Belgium with a section on visas. In addition, the European Commission site (http://ec.europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/travel/entry-exit/non-eu-family/index_en.htm) is extremely helpful in determining necessary documents and procedures.

Best of luck!

Hi
Thanks for the reply.
I am currently PhD student in Belgium. Visa type D.
I am here since last four months.
I also went to those links but it says about bringing non EU family member for EU resident member. But I am from Nepal. I heard that the income is one of the factor to bring the family but don't know how much exactly.
Appriciate for the reply.

Thanks.

To get the best information for your particular case, I think you should try contacting the European Commission. They have a helpful support board that can hopefully answer your question more completely. Good luck!
