looking for information about marrying a us citizen

Postby mirrum » Wed Jul 12, 2006 11:54 am

I am a uk citizen and my boyfriend is a us citizen, we are both 21. We want to get married but neither of us have alot of money. he still lives with his parents so we need to be able to afford a place to stay before we can get married. I want to apply for a fiancee visa and get a job in the us, i understand that you can work with a fiancee visa but when that expires you wont be able to work. Can i apply for a change of status when i still have a fiancee visa and how long will it take to come through? i dont want to be unable to work after i get to america as it will be unlikely we will be able to support ourselves and my child.

you are better off going to the US on your 90 day visa waiver program, and get married there in civil rites. Afterwhich, your new husband will file for your spouse visa WHILE you're already in the US. During the time the visa is filed, you cannot work legally, but I'm sure you can work that out, if you know what I mean. DO NOT tell the immigration officer when you arrive in the US that you have a boyfriend, are will be getting married, or anything of that nature. Just say you're there for your holiday and will stay with friends, etc. Any indication that you plan to settle there will be grounds for them to refuse entry.

I'm sure that method works - I have seen it on several BBS's. What about getting pemanent residency though?

I am a UK citizen, my fiancee is US. We are both in the US, in fact living together in VA where I am working under an E2 visa, so no need for me to get a Kx - right? Or wrong?

Can we just go ahead and get married? And again that question - what about permanent residency afterwards?
