Taiwan is really a difficult move because the people are really xenophobic. Most of the foreigners here are heroin addicts, and they shack up to save money. By far, the most difficult part about moving here is the low pay, the pollution, and contaminated food. If you eat the local food, you may die. This is not a joke, so you must ensure that you have health insurance, travel insurance, and are not purchasing generic food. One problem is that to survive one must work about 12 hours a day. Costs add up on the island, taxes are heavy, and there is lots of competition. This makes wages incredibly low, and it is difficult to make ends meet unless you live like a local. This means being miserly and eating cheap food. It takes its toll on one's body, and it can lead to death. One can eat very cheaply here, but you may be eating cardboard. Also, one can live in a very cheap room, but it may have gas leaks. People die every year from the aforementioned criteria. The fact that most foreigners here are drug addicts, and no formal education is required to work on the island makes the locals hate you. Foreigners are often stolen from, lied to, and cheated. One problem is that the locals will not leave the island. They have "Taiwan blinders", and I am quite sure that most here have no idea that there 196 other countries in the world. You meet people all the time that have lived their entire life just on the island and, often, not leaving the neighborhood that they grew up in. People shun competition, and equate reverse engineering as engineering because it is made at a lower price. The reality is that the place is totally backwards. One need to look no further than their employer on the island. Most are uneducated Hakkanese who are compelled to cheat all. Good luck.
