My name is Claire and I am a student in London. I am French and American.
My boyfriend is American and currently lives in Taiwan where we were working together before I had to come to London to start my studies.

We are hoping he can join me in London when his contract ends in January. Because it is difficult to get married in Taiwan as a foreigner we are planning to get married in Gibraltar when he arrives in Europe.

My questions is: Once we are married, will he be able to simply apply for an EEA2 while living in the UK?

Because he is American he does not need a visa to enter the UK. Can he simply enter the UK with no visa whatsoever, and apply for the EEA2? Or is it necessary to get the EEA Family Permit.

I have heard the Home Office will issue a "Certificate of Application" once we apply and are waiting for the EEA2. Will this "Certificate of Application" allow him to be in the UK and work in the UK while we wait for the EEA2?
