I am an Italian citizen with ILR, my wife is a US citizen with a recently obtained 5-year EEA family permit. Under the current circumstances she can apply for ILR in four years' time. If I were to become a British citizen next year, would she able to apply for ILR sooner than in four years?
    Thanks,

    Marco

    Hi,
How long have you been in the UK ?
If 5 years next year you can apply to become UK citizen, which would take additional 6-7 months. So,your wife would have to reapply and I would imagine that would be treated as new application. After period of 2 years she could get ILR.
So, roughly it would take more than 3 years. Is it worth all the hassle?Iam not so sure.

    Regards

    Triple H

    If you have ILR:
    - your wife could go to the States and get an Entry Clearance valid fr 2 years (in the UK law, as you have ILR - so you are considered present and settled in the UK).
    - during this 2 year time, you get your british citizenship
    - then after 2 years your wife get ILR as well, and after 1 more year she can apply for British citizenship because she is married to a british citizen.
Not worth the hassle and the money spent with that, in my opinion!
