EEA family permit and need advice

I have immigrated to the uk from south africa with my husband who is (austrian) I am on a EEA family permit. I have no idea what the difference is between a family permit and a spouse's visa. We have been here 2 months and need to know what my options are for permanent residence or what the rules are. Please help!
