I know this has been discussed before but not to the extent that I personally need. my boyfriend and i married in the US while he was here on holiday on a visa waiver. it was unexpected as we " just did it" because we were tired of flying back and forth and being apart for months at a time. we were going back and forth for a year and a half. we have been living here in the states since his arrivel on april 20th 2011. we married on june 11th, 2011 and his return was suppose to be july 19th. it is now sept and I am reading that if he over stays 180 days he could be banned from the US. we filled his paperwork out for legal residedency and went to the civil surgeon for his physical. we hear it could take a year or more to get his greencard. and to be able to work and drive here. he was injured in a road traffic accident in scotland in1988 and collects dss and income support and a few others due to the accident. he wants to go back and we have discussed this and we both feel we could have a better life in the UK. what I want to know is one how long does it take to get a spousal visa for the uk? once I get it can I work and drive there? can I go over on my american passort and apply there during my six month limit since I am married to a british citizen? and finally does it have to be him that can show he can support me as I said he collects from the goverment there? I will have a savings of around 20,000 dollars to show I can support myself until I can work. so since we are married this would be considered OUR money Correct or not???? please I am at wits end trying to figure this all out. any help would be greatly appreciated.
