    Hi guys,

I have a question about Banking. I'm working for a German company here in the US. I'm in a rotational program were I will be living and working 6 months in the US and then 6 months in Germany.
I was wondering if you guys have any suggestions on what I should do regarding banking. Should I open a Girokonto at a regular bank? Offshore banking? Open an account at the post which I heard is best for money transfers.
I will get payed from the US headquarters and not from Germany, but I will most likely have some bills regarding internet and mobile phone.

    Thank you in advance

It is fairly simple to open a bank account in Germany and some banks have agreements with banks back home- the most notable being Bank of America in cooperation with Deutsche Bank (http://www.db.com/index_e.htm). If you already have an account with BOA, that might be a perfect solution.

Personally- I use DKB(http://www.dkb.de/) which doesn't have much of a store presence as most things are done online. There are no fees for having an account or taking out money from ATMs (some banks have large fees for drawing money from competitors ATMs- just like USA).

Sparkasse (http://www.sparkasse.de/) is a popular expat bank in particular. They have banks on every corner. I hear they offer great customer service to start (at least for Germany), but have heard they can be difficult if you have an issue later on.

Hopefully that gives you a little info on banks themselves.
