Newbies in Saumur starting a little english shop/cafe Hello! my best friend and I are sick of liverpool (he grew up here, I have no excuse!) and want to join some anglo mates in Saumur. we've had the unique and genius idea of starting a little english chip shop/cafe/shop. I bet nobody's EVER done that, eh? ;-) Where do we start? Have an awesome day!
Re: Newbies in Saumur starting a little english shop/cafe Hello lynntolmon and welcome to EasyExpat.com. So, is Saumur invaded by the Brits? Well a café/shop may not be a novelty in the city, but an English one might be. Will you be serving tea with scones? The thing is that you will need a location. The best contact point is probably the Mairie (city hall) where they will be able to direct you/give you some information. Either get the money to rent an existing retail or open a new one (but then you will need to apply for the licence, which might not be the easiest solution). In any case you might find some and other information in our Guide for expatriation to France (although focused on Paris many of the tips/inof are more generic). Good luck and keep us informed on the forum.
Re: Newbies in Saumur starting a little english shop/cafe thanks for the warm welcome. we reckon a good scone with a pot of tea in the afternoons, full english breakfasts, and fish & chips are the way to go. not that we want to compete with the awesome places that are already there like cafe du centre and cafe du coin. mmmmmmm.... maybe we could just take over le liverpool.... the best mate is determined to get an old burger van and do fish and chips at markets too. is there a list of local markets/market days anywhere? thanks have a great day!
Re: Newbies in Saumur starting a little english shop/cafe No idea about market days. Maybe you will find some information here: http://www.ville-saumur.fr/ The van is a good idea for a start (although not too cosy for tea+scones ). You will still need a licence I reckon (at least a registered business, and authorisation from the Mairie.
International investing Hi All, I'm new to this forum. French national leaving now in Australia, hope I m posting in the right section I'm interested in diversing my investments. Bough a house here in OZ Got "assurance vie" in France and some money in the bank I would like to buy real estate in the US, Japan. That s to start with I have done extensive research on what incidence it would bring in our life in the future: Taxes depending where we live, preparing our retirement and helping the kids It s pretty hard to find what I m after and wondering if anyone has done or is doing the same as I do today. Many things have their importance such as taxes, exchange rates, returns, country where you live... Cheers ! Greg
Re: International investing Hmmm, I would recommend using our Expat-Quotes directory of expat services for Bank and Offshore Services. In addition, our expat guides can help you understand tax & requirements in different countries. But I don't know much about this area. Anyone else have advice or info?
