    Over the past few days I've been searching for a 1 or 2 brm apt in Sweden and was at first overwhelmed by the plethora of cheap and available 2 brm apts in Stockholm.....Contacted several, then started getting replies, some were almost identical, I started to wonder, some were asking for all my personal info and talking about payment right off the bat, getting alarmed....then stumbled upon this expats site, thankfully, which had a warning to watch out for renting apt scams, and the way they described them, pretty much summed up the follow up emails I was getting from the ads on Craigs List Stockholm, Holiday Rentals/Apartments.....so beware.....I'm not easily fooled but they were rather deceptive. So if something seems too good to be true, it probably is.......rings true.....don't give out your info until they've given you theirs, that's verifiable and adds up, makes sense, is consistent, ask lots of questions and demand answers. And do not send any money no matter what!!! when they ask for money orders, bank transfers, all untracable ways of getting money while remaining anonymous, don't do it!!! Having said that, my hubby and i are looking for a reasonable place to rent for the next few months...

    Thanks for the tips! Sounds like a really unpleasant experience.

    Have you checked out the EasyExpat site on Stockholm (http://www.easyexpat.com/en/stockholm.htm) ? It offers some sites in which to look for housing (http://www.easyexpat.com/en/stockholm/a ... e-flat.htm):
    * http://www.onlinenewspapers.com/sweden.htm
    * http://www.dn.se
    * http://www.blocket.se

    "Municipalities also provide information about accommodation on their websites:

    * http://www.stockholm.se
    * http://www.bovision.se
    * http://www.hemnet.se

    You may want to consider living in Hammarby Sjöstad - an eco-friendly part of town which has tough environmental requirements on buildings, technical installations and traffic. Indeed the Stockholm Water Company and local government joined forces to ensure organic recycling throughout Hammarby Sjöstad:

    Best of luck & hopefully no more scams
