    Rent control is a governmental housing policy that limits how much landlords can charge for rent. It is a common policy in Europe, where many major cities have some form of rent control.

    Rent control is often justified on the grounds that it makes housing more affordable for tenants. However, there is a lot of debate about whether rent control is effective at achieving this goal. Some economists argue that rent control can actually make housing less affordable in the long run.
