Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, there was a small but unique group of people called digital nomads that were living their best life– working remotely from various countries whilst enjoying the lifestyle of their temporary home. These people did not require any special work permits, like EU citizens sampling remote work and life in another EU country. However, Covid-19 crashlanded causing global lockdowns and tight restrictions, and travel between countries– even within EU countries– became impossible.

However, now as travel restrictions are being eased and many more workers are able to complete their jobs remotely, a few European countries are marketing themselves as the best destination for digital nomads. One way they’re targeting this group of remote workers is by introducing new ‘easy-to-apply-for’ digital nomad visas to entice more people to travel to their shores and diversify their economy.
